Your Eye Health for Hayes Residents
Hayes' multicultural population includes communities with higher prevalence of conditions like diabetes and glaucoma. Regular comprehensive eye examinations with OCT scanning are particularly important for early detection. Our practice is easily accessible from Hayes via the U3 bus or a 10-minute drive, and our welcoming, diverse team puts every patient at ease.
Eye health matters for everyone, and at Eyewise we provide the thorough assessments that Hayes residents deserve. Some eye conditions, particularly glaucoma and diabetic eye disease, are more common in certain ethnic groups, making regular comprehensive examinations especially important for Hayes' diverse community.
Our private eye examination gives you up to 1 hour of focused attention. We assess your vision, examine the structures of your eyes, check eye pressure, and use OCT scanning to image the retinal layers in microscopic detail. This level of thorough, technology-driven assessment is what sets Eyewise apart.
OCT technology is particularly valuable for detecting glaucoma, a condition that damages the optic nerve silently and irreversibly. By the time you notice symptoms, significant damage has already occurred. Our OCT scans can detect changes years before symptoms appear, when treatment is most effective.
Optomap ultra-widefield imaging captures 200 degrees of your retina, giving us a panoramic view that's especially useful for monitoring diabetic eye changes and peripheral retinal conditions. Combined with OCT, it provides a comprehensive eye health record that we track at every visit. If referral is needed, our detailed imaging supports prompt specialist care.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an OCT scan and do I need one?
OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) is an advanced imaging technology that creates detailed cross-section images of your retina, similar to an MRI for your eyes. It can detect conditions like glaucoma and macular degeneration years before symptoms appear. We recommend OCT scanning for all patients as part of a comprehensive eye health assessment.
How often should I have a private eye examination?
We generally recommend a comprehensive eye examination every two years for adults, or annually if you're over 60, have a family history of eye disease, are diabetic, or wear contact lenses. Children should be examined annually. Our optometrists will advise on the right frequency for your individual circumstances.
I have a family history of glaucoma, how early should I start getting checked?
If you have a first-degree relative (parent or sibling) with glaucoma, we recommend annual comprehensive examinations from age 40, or earlier if you're of African-Caribbean descent, as the risk is higher and onset can be earlier. Our OCT scanning provides the most sensitive early detection available outside a hospital.
