Specialist Care for Ickenham Residents
Ickenham families, particularly those with children at Breakspear Junior and Vyners School, often discover us through colorimetry referrals. The village's active, outdoors-oriented residents also benefit from dry eye management and EyeDream, services available together at our nearby Hillingdon practice.
Eyewise provides Ickenham residents with access to three specialist clinics, each led by optometrists with advanced training.
Dry Eye Management: If you've tried over-the-counter drops without lasting relief, our specialist clinic investigates why. We examine the meibomian glands, assess tear film quality, and identify contributing factors, from Ickenham's breezy open spaces drying out your eyes during walks, to screen use and central heating at home. Your treatment plan is tailored to your specific type of dry eye.
Colorimetry: We use an Intuitive Colorimeter for precise colorimetry assessment. Ickenham children at Breakspear Junior School, Glebe Primary, and Vyners who struggle with reading, despite having clear sight, may benefit enormously from a colorimetry assessment. Precision-tinted lenses can make words stop moving on the page, transforming reading from a chore into a pleasure.
EyeDream: Popular with active Ickenham residents, EyeDream overnight lenses provide clear daytime vision without glasses or contacts. For children with progressing myopia, they also slow the rate at which short-sightedness worsens, an investment in lifelong eye health.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is colorimetry and how do I know if I need it?
Colorimetry is a specialist assessment for visual stress, a condition where the brain struggles to process certain visual patterns, particularly text. Symptoms include words appearing to move, blur, or shimmer on the page, headaches when reading, losing your place frequently, and eye strain. If you or your child experiences any of these, a colorimetry assessment can determine whether precision-tinted lenses would help.
How does EyeDream work?
EyeDream uses specially designed gas-permeable contact lenses worn only while you sleep. Overnight, they gently reshape the front surface of your eye (the cornea) so that when you remove the lenses in the morning, you can see clearly all day without glasses or daytime contact lenses. The effect is temporary and fully reversible. EyeDream also helps slow the progression of short-sightedness in children.
My child at Breakspear Junior School finds reading tiring, could colorimetry help?
It's certainly worth investigating. If your child reports that words seem to move, blur, or create patterns, or they get headaches and fatigue when reading, these are classic signs of visual stress. Our Intuitive Colorimeter assessment takes about 40 minutes and can determine whether precision-tinted lenses would make a real difference.
